Psychologist-Unpaid Internship

Applications are now being accepted for a Psychologist-Unpaid Internship position in the Renton School District. Applicants should have competency in psychological techniques and be skillful in their application to the education setting. Applicants should further have specialized knowledge in diagnosis, learning and interpersonal relationships to assist school personnel in enriching the experience and growth of all children, and to recognize and deal with exceptional children.

Essential Functions - All responsibilities will be conducted under the supervision of an endorsed psychologist.

• Measure and interpret the intellectual, academic, social, and emotional development of children.
• Diagnose educational and personal disabilities and collaborate in the planning of educational and therapeutic services.
• Identify exceptional children and collaborate in the planning of educational and social interventions, which could include placements in alternate settings.
• Collaborate with teams in the development of interventions to promote student learning and behavior modifications.
• Help teachers and administrators to understand child behaviors and intellectual and personality differences as they apply to the individual pupil and the class.
• Serve in a consulting capacity in curriculum and intervention planning.
• Coordinate and collaborate with team members to adhere to federal, state, and district timelines.
• Encourage and initiate research and help to utilize research findings for solutions of school problems.
• Assess students who are candidates for gifted education.
• Assume other appropriate duties as assigned.

Relationships

The Psychologist Intern is accountable to the supervising psychologist and Special Education Director for interpreting and executing the above responsibilities in addition to any other responsibilities that are assigned. The Psychologist maintains continuous contacts with various staff members to ensure close coordination and communication necessary for accomplishment of the designated objectives for the school district. The Psychologist Intern maintains contacts with parents, parent-teacher associations and other community organizations to promote understanding and goodwill toward the objectives of the Renton School District.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Working toward completion of master's degree or equivalent in School or Educational Psychology with the objective of obtaining a Washington State School Psychology Certificate (E.S.A.).

2. Ability to relate successfully with students, staff, and community.

3. Candidates must possess understanding and have experience in working with minority youth and communities.

4. Experience in working in a school setting is preferred.

5. Culturally competent. Ability to effectively work with diverse populations.

Salary: This is an unpaid position.
